OSPF - Part 7

OSPF Authentication

Open shortest path first which allow the flexible to authentication ospf neighbors. you can enable ospf authentication in order to exchange routing update information in a secure manner.

OSPF can authenticate every ospf message. This is usually done to prevent a rogue router from injecting false routing information and therefore causing a Denial-of-Service attack.

OSPF support three types of authentication:

1. Null authentication - Type 0
2. clear-text authentication - Type 1
3. MD5 authentication - Type 2

Apply OSPF authentication on interface:

Verify it:

Router# show ip ospf interface serial 1/0

Apply ospf authentication on ospf area:

Verify it:

       Router# show ip ospf  <pid no>
